New Tower Hamlets Slice logo.

The Slice’s hyperlocal news titles to rebrand as readership grows in Tower Hamlets

Tower Hamlet’s four hyperlocal news titles, published by Social Streets CIC, will be rebranded as Tower Hamlets Slice to reflect its growing audience and increase visibility in the local area.

Social media accounts are currently being consolidated into a single account. The usernames @romanroadldn, @whitechapelldn, @bethnalgreenldn and @poplarldn on Facebook, X, Instagram, Youtube and Tiktok will now operate under the handle of @TowerHamletsSlice.

Youtube, X and Instagram have already been changed and Facebook will soon change.

All four websites, Roman Road LDN, Bethnal Green LDN, Whitechapel LDN and Poplar LDN will be migrated to a single website called Tower Hamlets Slice. Each legacy title will retain its channel, ensuring readers can continue to access content relevant to their neighbourhood.

In preparation, branding on the four websites has already been changed to incorporate the well-known Tower Hamlets Slice wedge alongside the neighbourhood logo. Readers will recognise the wedge-shaped graphic from the Slice’s print magazine, established in 2021.

History of Tower Hamlets Slice brand.

The online flagship title, Roman Road LDN (Romanroadlondon.com), was launched in 2018. Its three sister sites were launched in 2020. Tower Hamlets Slice magazine was launched in 2021.

‘Initially, we created The Slice brand to give an identity to our weekly newsletter from each hyperlocal title – a ‘slice of life’ from your neighbourhood,’ explains Editor-in-Chief Tabitha Stapely. ‘But readers quickly came to refer to all our hyperlocal titles as ‘the Slice’ and we realised this was the best name for our new borough-wide presence.’

‘This is a very exciting time. Rebranding as the Tower Hamlets Slice reflects our success as a borough-wide publisher and opens up greater opportunities for achieving financial sustainability.’

‘We have big plans for the future. We’re currently working on a six-month investigative project looking at the synthetic opioid crisis in east London.’

Tower Hamlets Slice and its family of four online community news websites, Roman Road LDN, Whitechapel LDN, Poplar LDN and Bethnal Green LDN, is an independent news outlet committed to safeguarding high-quality journalism at a community level.

These titles are published by Social Streets CIC, a not-for-profit news publishing organisation set up by former magazine editor Tabitha Stapely, who wanted to bring back local journalism, but better.
