Evironmental portrait photographer

Lady Lane Market

Social Streets is creating the branding, identity, website and online presence for a new women-only market in Tower Hamlets and looking for a female environmental portrait photographer to support this project.

The market has been created to give women from BAME backgrounds the opportunity to set up their own enterprise and trade in a male-dominated environment of a street market, something their cultures would not normally permit.

Most of the women have English as a second language and have never run their own businesses before. We are offering them training in enterprise and social media to prepare them for trading on the market. We will then work with the women to raise their profile as a market and place them in the press.

We have partnered with international branding company Rosie Lee Creatives to design the logo and brand identity for the market.

Brief

A portrait photographer is needed to take a series of portraits of 15 women who will be forming a new women-only market.

The photographer needs to be female as most of the women come from cultures that would prohibit interaction with a male photographer.

We need photographs of each woman in their home environment to accompany an interview feature.  Many of the women are Muslim and heavily covered. Some do not wish to have their face showing in the photograph. Each picture must capture their individual stories and backgrounds.

We will also need pictures of the women and their products trading at the new street market, which will be in an area of Petticoat Lane.

The shots will be used in an extensive marketing campaign to support diversity and women’s empowerment.

This is a paid job however the budget is limited as this is a grant-funded project so we are looking for someone who will appreciate the opportunity to support this cause and capture a fascinating mix of women from diverse backgrounds.

Please send your portfolio on application to tabitha@socialstreets.co

Deadlines for expressions of interest is Tuesday 8 October, or sooner as the job needs to start immediately.
