Social Streets launches Social Streets Studio in Tower Hamlets

Social Streets launches Social Streets Studio at new Mulberry UTC in Bow, East London, as part of a pioneering partnership between a secondary school and a media company.

Social Streets Studio will operate as a live business within school premises, offering its students unlimited access to training and work experience opportunities. Social Streets will publish its online ‘high street’ magazine titles from the Studio including Roman Road LDN.

Mulberry UTC is a technical academy specialising in creative and media courses including Digital Media. Mulberry’s Digital Media students will be working on projects with Social Streets as part of their curriculum, and gaining specialist knowledge in online journalism.

The partnership between Social Streets, a community interest company, and Mulberry UTC, a local academy trust pioneering ‘employer-led education’, will provide opportunities for local young people to access jobs in industries they would not normally consider.

Social Streets has also partnered with Queen Mary London University to offer academic placements and research residencies to Queen Mary post-graduates and Phd students. Like the Mulberry students, the Queen Mary university students will collaborate on Social Streets projects and will be invited to work alongside the Mulberry students as a way of encouraging local young people into further education.

Social Streets and its partners share a commitment to develop a centre of learning, excellence and innovation in the field of hyper-local journalism, technology and citizenship.

Social Streets Studio will be opening at Mulberry UTC, Parnell Road, Bow, East London, in January 2018.
